County Medical Services
The Noxubee medical complex meets most of the urgent and routine health-care needs of county residents. It employs about 170 full- and part-time staff and operates the following five facilities:
Noxubee General Critical Access Hospital
This 25-bed facility includes an emergency room staffed around the clock. Depending on medical needs, patients are admitted to the hospital or transported to other facilities by ambulance or helicopter. The hospital is approved to operate as a swing-bed facility that can provide post-hospital skilled nursing services under Medicare Part A.
Noxubee County Nursing Home
This facility is a 60-bed, Medicaid-certified skilled nursing home staffed by professionals well qualified in medical care.
Primary Care and Medical Clinics
Macon Primary Care Clinic, Macon Medical Clinic, and Brooksville Medical Clinic provide patients with access to three physicians specializing in internal medicine, one physician in family medicine, and five nurse practitioners.

Baptist Memorial Hospital—Golden Triangle
Located in Columbus, about 34 miles north of Macon, this 328-bed is a part of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system. More than 100 physicians and surgeons in a wide range of specializations practice at the hospital. The Baptist Centers for Cancer Care facility at this hospital provide a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services.
North Mississippi Medical Center—West Point
Many Noxubee County residents use the excellent health services of the North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC). With its main facilities in Tupelo, NMMC operates a full-service, 60-bed facility in West Point, just 36 miles from Macon. Included are four operating suites, a six-bed intensive care unit, six rooms for outpatient surgery, and 24-hour emergency services. A Women’s Pavilion provides family-centered maternity services. Radiology and imaging services, a sleep disorders laboratory, a wellness center, and many other ancillary services are available.
OCH Regional Medical Center
Located in Starkville, about 35 miles northwest of Macon, OCH offers many types of medical care services, including gynecology, pediatric services, occupational therapy, maternity services, surgical services, cardiac rehabilitation, and sleep disorder services. OCH operates a 96-bed hospital plus four clinics that focus on sleep and lung health, breast health, family medicine, and ear, nose, and throat services.
Meridian Area Hospitals
These hospitals and others are available in the Meridian area, about 60 miles from Macon.
Emergency Transportation
For emergency situations, transportation is provided by a county ambulance service or by helicopters operating from nearby Fayette, Alabama, or Jackson, Mississippi.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center
This medical center is in Jackson, Mississippi, and includes four specialized hospitals, a clinic, and a level-one trauma center. A highly ranked teaching and research center, it is the site of the first successful human heart transplant.
The University of Alabama Birmingham Health System
The UAB Health System is a national leader in research, training, and patient care. Located about 140 miles from Macon, it features a hospital ranked among the world’s best. The outpatient care center offers the services of 700 physicians in 35 different specializations.
